Episode Overview
In this episode, Michael D. Levitt sits down with Erik Braund, CEO of Katmai Tech, to explore how immersive 3D virtual collaboration is transforming the future of work. Katmai’s groundbreaking platform redefines remote interaction by combining video presence with spatial freedom—creating an environment that mirrors the energy and spontaneity of a physical office.
Inside Katmai’s Virtual Collaboration Platform
Erik explains how Katmai bridges the gap between traditional video conferencing and in-person work. Unlike static grid calls, Katmai enables users to move freely in a 3D virtual space, sparking natural, spontaneous conversations. The result?
A 70% reduction in standing meetings for users
Average engagement of 23 hours per week—nearly double the time people typically spend on Zoom or Teams
Shorter, more meaningful interactions, averaging 15 minutes among small groups
Erik shares how these immersive environments foster authentic collaboration, serendipitous moments, and stronger team culture—elements often lost in remote work setups.
The Power of Remote Work Flexibility
Michael builds on the conversation by highlighting the evolving nature of work. He references insights from leaders like Jamie Dimon, exploring how workplace flexibility enhances autonomy, engagement, and performance. Michael notes that trust and choice are central to preventing burnout and driving productivity.
He humorously recalls a company that had to schedule a meeting—ironically—to discuss having too many meetings, reinforcing the idea that tools like Katmai can make communication more efficient and human-centered.
Balancing Efficiency and Well-Being
Erik and Michael dive into the psychology of remote work, discussing the pitfalls of multitasking and blurred boundaries. Both stress the need for intentional systems that support focus and well-being.
Erik explains how Katmai’s user-friendly interface helps teams stay connected without overwhelming them with constant pings or apps. The platform promotes mindful communication, encouraging quick, productive exchanges rather than endless calls.
Michael connects this to his Breakfast Leadership Network philosophy, emphasizing that burnout prevention begins with designing work environments—virtual or physical—that support energy, creativity, and balance.
Key Takeaways
Immersive collaboration is redefining remote culture by bringing “office energy” online.
Flexibility and autonomy are critical to engagement and performance.
Meeting reduction and better-designed communication tools lead to happier, more focused teams.
Technology should enhance human connection, not replace it.

Reprogramming the Subconscious for Success
In this episode, I sat down with Jim to explore the powerful role of the subconscious in shaping our lives. Jim shared how behaviors and outcomes are often dictated by subconscious identities, and how reprogramming these patterns can create lasting success. He walked us through his own journey—from a poor Texas farm boy to a multi-millionaire—showing firsthand what’s possible when you align your subconscious beliefs with your goals. I added my own reflections on reinvention throughout my career, reinforcing how our inner identity becomes the foundation for personal and professional growth.
Shaping Interests Through Early Experiences
We also explored how curiosity and interests are formed over time. I shared my shift from struggling in science classes to developing a genuine passion for it later in life, while Jim reflected on his early challenges with math. Together, we unpacked how childhood experiences and ingrained beliefs can set the stage for our strengths, struggles, and perceptions of ability later in adulthood.
Mindset Differences in Success and Failure
Jim drew a clear contrast between the mindset of successful millionaires and those who remain financially stuck. He explained that high performers are constantly driven to grow—either by the desire to surpass family achievements or by the fear of losing what they’ve built—while those struggling often default to excuses and fear of failure. We discussed how identity shapes habits and behaviors, influencing not just personal success but also the divides we see in today’s social and political climate.
Beyond Manufactured Identity Divide
Together, we explored how identity can unite or divide us. Using the metaphor of a tree fighting against itself, we reflected on how clinging to manufactured identities can lead to destruction. Jim and I both emphasized the importance of evolving beyond these surface-level divides and recognizing our shared human needs and goals as the path toward real progress.
Overcoming Subconscious Barriers to Growth
We closed by talking about the daily battle against subconscious barriers and external influences. Jim highlighted how his podcast helps listeners reprogram habits and reframe subconscious beliefs, while I reflected on the growing need to manage how social media and technology shape our identities. The key takeaway: true growth requires awareness, action, and the courage to break free from limiting patterns so you can step into your full potential.
Ready to truly transform your life—professionally, personally, and spiritually? Whether you’re seeking breakthroughs in business, deeper relationships, or inner alignment, Jim Fortin is the mentor high-performing leaders turn to when they’re ready to change from the inside out.
Jim is the creator and host of The Jim Fortin Podcast, a global chart-topper with over two million downloads in its first two years. Widely regarded as a leading voice in subconscious self-transformation, Jim has shared stages with icons like Tony Robbins, Dr. Phil, Robert Kiyosaki, and George Foreman, offering a unique blend of behavioral science and ancient wisdom to shift how people lead and live.
For over two decades, Jim has trained thousands—from Wall Street executives to local business owners—in the art of human effectiveness, sales influence, and his signature method: NeuroPersuasion®, a breakthrough system rooted in NLP, hypnosis, and brain-based performance strategies. Through his company Mind Authority, Jim has privately coached global changemakers in business, government, and social impact to access clarity, alignment, and elevated results.
His sought-after programs—The Transformational Coaching Program and Be Do Have Training Series—have helped individuals rewrite limiting narratives, dissolve sabotaging patterns, and create powerful shifts in every area of life.

Fleet Management Expertise and Optimization with Jeff Nieman
In this episode, I sit down with Jeff Nieman, Chief Operating Officer at Merchants Fleet, to explore the evolving world of fleet management and logistics. With more than two decades of experience in the industry, including 20 years at Hertz Corporation, Jeff shares insights into the complexity of managing fleets across industries and the strategies organizations can use to optimize operations, cut costs, and maximize vehicle utilization—especially during times of economic disruption.
Optimizing Fleet Management for Efficiency
Jeff and I unpack the importance of efficient fleet management and the logistics behind moving goods and people. He explains how Merchants’ product FleetShare helps companies solve utilization challenges by allowing shared vehicle access across business units. This approach not only improves efficiency but also reduces waste. Data analysis plays a key role in determining the right number of vehicles, while their digital platform provides businesses with seamless self-service vehicle access.
Fleet-Sharing Innovation
We dive into Merchants’ groundbreaking fleet-sharing platform, designed to let businesses rent vehicles for short periods and even share them across companies during peak demand. This innovation reduces costs, generates revenue, and addresses common pain points like underutilized vehicles and storage expenses. Jeff also explains how this approach could support the transition to electric vehicles by helping organizations coordinate usage and overcome range limitations.
The Role of AI in Logistics
Our conversation also touches on the role of AI in fleet management and logistics. Jeff highlights both the opportunities and risks of implementing AI, particularly around governance, compute costs, and operational impacts. We agree that starting with simple, practical AI applications is the best way to build trust and results before moving into more advanced implementations.

Podcasting has become one of the most powerful tools for marketing, networking, and brand visibility. In this episode, Michael D. Levitt and Joe Massa from Podtopia Network dive deep into how podcasting builds authentic connections and opens doors for business growth. Joe, a 20-year radio veteran and founder of Podtopia Network, shares insights on how podcasting allows professionals to create meaningful relationships and generate organic marketing opportunities.
Michael highlights how his own podcast journey, which began in 2017, helped him expand his professional network, strengthen his brand presence, and connect like-minded leaders across industries. He emphasizes that podcasting serves not only as a marketing platform but also as a relationship builder, offering a way to make warm introductions and nurture genuine connections.
Podcasting: The Hidden Marketing Engine
Joe explains that many businesses overlook podcasting as a marketing strategy, yet it offers long-term visibility, audience engagement, and opportunities for monetization. With no FCC restrictions, podcasts give creators the freedom to express ideas, share stories, and build credibility with niche audiences.
Michael and Joe discuss how podcasting creates multiple touchpoints with listeners—turning each episode into an evergreen marketing asset that continues to generate leads and build community over time.
HR, Business Growth, and Finding Your Tribe
Michael also brings in his expertise in HR and business leadership, discussing how podcasting and content creation can help organizations find their “tribe.” He encourages leaders to use their voice—whether through a podcast, book, or social platform—to share expertise and establish authority in their field.
Creating Authentic Content That Resonates
Joe underscores that the key to content success lies in passion and authenticity. Originality matters less than showing up with enthusiasm for a topic you love. Together, Michael and Joe highlight how podcasting can serve as both a marketing tool and a form of personal expression that brings people together.
Start Podcasting Today
Michael closes with encouragement for aspiring podcasters: don’t overthink it. Start where you are, use what you have, and create content that feels true to you. Podcasting isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection, storytelling, and growth.

De-escalation, Emotional Intelligence, and the Power of Listening
Affect Labeling for Emotional RegulationDoug introduced a counterintuitive but highly effective method for managing emotions called affect labeling. By quieting the mind and directly naming emotions with simple “you” statements, he explained how it’s possible to calm emotional escalation in as little as 90–120 seconds. I found this approach fascinating, especially since it activates the brain’s right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex to downshift the amygdala. Doug emphasized that affect labeling can be used not only to regulate your own emotions but also to help others in the middle of tense conversations.
Violence Prevention in PrisonsDoug shared remarkable stories from his work teaching violence prevention to lifers in maximum security prisons. Over 800 graduates of his program have been released on parole in California without a single reoffense. I couldn’t help but admire the impact of this initiative. Imagine how much stronger our communities and families could be if these emotional regulation skills were taught broadly in society. Doug and I agreed: teaching these tools early in life could help prevent conflicts and foster emotional maturity.
De-escalating Conflict Through ListeningWe also explored why anger and polarization seem to be on the rise in today’s world. Doug explained that much of it stems from people feeling unheard. When individuals don’t feel validated, they often resort to anger or rudeness. He described how even on social media, simply labeling emotions can de-escalate heated conversations. I wholeheartedly agreed — if more people practiced this skill, we’d see far more harmony in society.
Calm Conversations with Polarized IndividualsDoug walked us through a framework for having constructive conversations with people holding strongly different political or personal beliefs. The method involves asking four questions: what life experiences shaped their beliefs, how those beliefs support their daily life, how they handle differing beliefs, and how they think society should be organized. Rather than trying to persuade or argue, Doug emphasized listening and validating emotions. I see this as a game-changer for building understanding, even in tense family gatherings or divided communities.
De-escalation and Emotional Intelligence in LeadershipFinally, Doug and I discussed the role of de-escalation skills in leadership. Emotional intelligence and active listening are powerful tools for creating psychological safety and transforming difficult conversations. Doug even shared his free online course on dealing with anger and aggression, available through LinkedIn or by email. It’s a valuable resource for anyone looking to strengthen their leadership and communication skills.

Journey to Financial Independence with Kam Dasani
In this inspiring episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, we sat down with Kam Dasani to explore his journey from a high-paying corporate role in Silicon Valley to full financial independence through trading and investing. Kam shared how he transitioned from a $250,000 salary to a life of true freedom—where time, location, and purpose all align. His story offers valuable insights for anyone ready to step away from the corporate treadmill and design a life on their own terms.
From Corporate Hustle to Freedom
Kam opened up about leaving behind the demanding pace of Silicon Valley in pursuit of autonomy and balance. He shared how he built multiple income streams—from investing to trading—and how financial freedom granted him the ability to live life on his own schedule. The discussion reminded listeners that success isn’t just about wealth; it’s about having control over your time and energy.
The Power of Location and Lifestyle Design
We discussed the high costs and burnout culture of San Francisco compared to the slower, more fulfilling lifestyle Kam found in Dallas. He shared how geographic freedom has been key to his happiness and flexibility, proving that financial independence can also bring peace of mind. Trading, he noted, offered a career path that fit perfectly with his desire for flexibility and mobility.
Smart Investing and the Role of Research
We talked about the importance of doing deep research before making investment decisions. While AI tools can support the process, Kam and our team emphasized that critical thinking and due diligence remain essential. We also clarified that our discussion serves as educational insight, not financial advice.
Risk-Free Trading Through Prop Firms
Kam shared how he discovered prop firm trading after connecting with Mahul Patel, a former Goldman Sachs algorithm trader. Prop firms give traders access to leveraged capital with minimal personal risk—traders keep 80% of profits while risking only a small portion of their own funds. Kam explained how understanding this model opened doors to sustainable, low-risk trading opportunities.
Futures Trading and Financial Leverage
We explored futures trading, where markets run nearly 24/5, and discussed how this structure enables traders to maximize returns while maintaining low operational costs. Kam revealed that with about 10 hours of training per month, he learned strategies that outperformed many traditional side businesses. Together, we emphasized the discipline required to manage leveraged funds responsibly.
Real Estate, Mentorship, and Managing Emotions
The conversation turned to real estate, where we compared risk profiles and discussed the importance of mentorship—such as Kam’s guidance from his uncle and professional brokers. Kam also reflected on how emotional regulation plays a crucial role in trading and investing success. His story of reaching millionaire status underscored the importance of mindset, patience, and mentorship in achieving financial goals.
Final Reflections
Kam’s journey is a testament to the power of intentional living, strategic investing, and self-discipline. For those dreaming of leaving the 9-to-5 grind, this episode offers both inspiration and practical insight into how to make that transition responsibly and sustainably.
